Beginners’ Guides

In this section you’ll find a variety of guides aimed at helping the beginner start out in fish keeping.  Everyone at Chez INJAF was a beginner at one point, and we understand how daunting it can be when you’re first setting out and trying to get everything right.  We’ve also made plenty of mistakes ourselves over the years and we want to help others avoid them by sharing our experiences here.

The guides in this section are aimed at beginners, and perhaps those returning to the hobby after a few years who want to freshen up their knowledge and catch up with new developments.  This is not to say that no one else should bother reading them, even an old hand might find something they hadn’t thought of, you should never stop learning after all. We’ve aimed to make them easy to understand while not ‘dumbing down’ too far.

The most important thing you can do before starting out is to research as much as possible.  This can save a lot of money as well as heartache as you should be able to avoid many of the pitfalls that cause you problems.  Above all, don’t be afraid to ask questions.  We’ve put together a list of recommended forums where there are plenty of experienced fish keepers who will be happy to help you out and set you on the right path.
